No.28 seed knocks out Sabalenka 4-6 6-1 6-0 to advance to the last 16 at Roland-Garros for the first time
Camila Giorgi fought back from a set down to beat No.7 seed Aryna Sabalenka in the third round at Roland-Garros 2022 on Saturday.
The Italian, who reached the quarter-finals at the All England Club last year, was in impressive form as she hit 29 winners past Sabalenka, including eight aces.
Sabalenka, who has never been beyond the fourth round at the French Open, made 30 unforced errors during the one hour and 48 minute match.
Giorgi will now face either Daria Kasatkina or Shelby Rogers in the last 16.
This is Giorgi's first win over Sabalenka in three meetings, and it is the first time she has reached the fourth round of the French Open.
It is also the first time that Sabalenka has lost a set to love in a Grand Slam match.
Giorgi's victory is a major upset, as Sabalenka is one of the favorites to win the French Open this year.
However, Giorgi has been in impressive form throughout the tournament, and she will be confident of causing more upsets in the rounds to come.
